Hand thrown stoneware storage jar with pale grey and green glaze. This jar has a perfectly fitted lid handmade from London plane. The beautiful piece of timber I used is spalted, which means that it was attacked by fungus when it was either living or dead. Drying completely kills the fungus but it's effect remains in the form of dark lines and lighter patches that create beautiful patterns. With the added knot, I think this lid looks a lot like Jupiter. Jovian is the adjectival form of Jupiter.

As pictured, it makes a great storage jar for dried mushrooms -
in homage to the fungus in the lid - or any other dry goods.

Height 100mm, width 90mm
