Small hand thrown stoneware drinking vessels glazed in pale blue or green with rust detail on the rim. Great for cocktails or hot herbal potions you want to drink in small batches.
The name for these cups comes from the Great Lakes region of the US that has suffered population decline, loss of manufacturing jobs and urban decay since the 1960s as a result of deindustrialisation and automation. It also happens to be where I grew up so despite all the negative connotations, I still have a deep fondness for it. The name also comes from the iron oxide - essentially liquid rust - that I brush on the rim of each cup which melts and reacts with the glazes in the kiln.
